1. Separate three signals
A Google impression means a page was shown, not that it ranked first. A click is measurable. An AI citation does not automatically mean a visit. Do not combine these as a single success figure.
2. Inspect crawl and indexability
Check status codes, robots, noindex, canonicals, sitemaps and internal links. Search Console reveals Google’s reported indexing state; a sitemap alone does not guarantee inclusion.
3. Publish verifiable experience
Service pages should clarify scope, guides should answer practical questions, and case studies should show real work with traceable sources. Avoid claiming content caused revenue or expansion without evidence.
4. Run repeatable AI citation tests
Use a fixed set of topic questions. Log dates, platform, wording, whether the brand appears, which URL is cited and whether the response is accurate. Repeat and acknowledge volatility.
5. Turn observations into decisions
Compare similar time windows in Search Console by URL, query, country and device. Connect this to qualified inquiry counts in the CRM, rather than treating every impression as a conversion.
